History of Cordova, Memphis, TN

Over the years, Cordova has been called a handful of different names. When it was first settled back in 1835, it started off as a farming community called Allentown. Within less than 50 years, its name changed to Marysville and then to Dexter.

It wasn’t until the year 1900 that the community was finally called Cordova because there was already another city in Tennessee called Dexter. The town got its previously mentioned motto of “Farms, Flowers, and Fellowship” from its history of farming and the many fresh cut flowers the area frequently sent to Memphis.
